"Even my sense of deja vu is coming down with deja vu now..."
History
Whenever I turn on the television or read a newspaper these days, I feel like I find hopelessly dated approaches to current problems. Back from times when the extent of corruption in English-speaking cultures was much more obscured than it is now. I also hear the same old justifications for why things are the way they are, and why they should remain so. It’s like the new future isn’t quite here yet, but that old past feels very much over. And I’m just less and less interested in the way of thinking that seems to characterise my generation and its direct predecessors. We tried it, and it worked, until it didn’t, and now I’m already on to the next thing.Lyrics
How long’s it been now? There’s the same notification on my screen now We’ve been back and forth and everywhere between now And still you’re keen now Listen, please stop trying to drag me back to 2017 now It’s over It’s done I’m already on to the next thing And then I say This is not the way we navigate the highway Your car is somehow blocking everybody’s driveway In the wide bay Can we please back out and try to turn around before the light fades? It’s over It’s done I’m already on to the next thing We’ve been here before, we’re here again It’s done, it’s over Already on to the next thing What do we do now? Perhaps another meeting massaging it through now All the brightest of the ribbons and the blue now Don’t have a clue now Even my sense of deja vu is coming down with deja vu now We did this It’s done I’m already on to the next thing We tried it, and it worked Until it didn’t You should be already on to the next thing We had the money but we didn’t want to talk about it We hit a mountain and we didn’t want to walk around it We had the privilege, we didn’t want to go without it Thick shards are falling from the ceiling to the floor now It’s over It’s done And they’re already on to the next thing And if we maybe tried to drop the annual fiscal target And if we maybe tried to stimulate the housing market Own a Bugatti but you’re way to terrified to park it Bricks, glass and mortar, well they’re falling to the ground now It’s over It’s done And they’re already on to the next thing And now our world is burning And the cream of the nation Utter incomprehension Talking bout my generation How could this happen to us? We were the smartest people? We told ourselves so And even I believed it How can we restart the party? Get back to how things were You can’t It’s broken It’s over Get ready for the next thingCredits & Copyright
